All over the America there are 44 million who suffer from
osteoporosis, 68 percent of which are women. This major problem is
responsible of over 1.5 million cases of fracture every year. To answer
the call, a few treatment options developed for osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a bone-crippling illness characterized by the weakening of the bones. A bone density test
is needed to reveal if you are a candidate for osteoporosis.
Furthermore, this procedure helps your doctor determine if you need an
osteoporosis medication like Fosamax to prevent your bones from
breaking.
There are a number of remedies your doctor may
suggest In order to prevent the occurrence of fracture, which is the
main goal of treating osteoporosis. Apart from that, you may also be
advised to modify your diet and/or perform regular exercises. Medicinal
therapy alone may not give the most desired outcome of the treatment. Bisphosphonate drugs are currently the treatment of
choice for osteoporosis. They reduce bone loss by preventing bone
resorption and lower the risk of spine and hip fractur. One of the most
popular bisphosphonates is alendronate (Fosamax).
Before bisphosphonates were made, estrogen hormone
therapy was the first line of treatment for osteoporosis. Primarily, the
hormone estrogen increases bone formation and reduces bone resorption
which prevents bone loss. This action is identical to the testosterone
replacement therapy which may be prescribed in men with osteoporosis.
A treatment program for osteoporosis is usually
inclusive of nutrition, exercise and safety matters. People who are
suffering from osteoporosis need to have adequate amount of vitamin D
and calcium in their diet. Furthermore, weight-bearing activities, like
walking or hiking, are important to keep your bones healthy.
There are many approaches towards treating
osteoporosis and your health care provider will determine the best
intervention based on your medical history. Every treatment option has
its own advantages and disadvantages. As in the case of bisphosphonate
drug, which could cause a certain thigh bone fracture if used over a
long course. The manufacturer seemingly failed to warn it users hence
making it a ground for filing a Fosamax lawsuit by its patronizers.
